While most people don’t seem to have any problems or side effects when taking coenzyme Q10, it has been known to cause some mild side effects, including stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Coenzyme Q 10 can cause allergic skin rashes in some individuals. It also might lower blood pressure, so check to make sure with your family physician before taking coenzyme Q10 and make sure you are very aware of what your normal blood pressure is, especially if you have very low blood pressure.

Coenzyme Q 10 (CoQ10) is produced naturally by the body and most healthy people have enough Co Q10 in their system.  Co Q10 is an antioxidant and plays a key role in the body.  Co Q10 has often been used to retard the aging process, for levels of Co Q10 drops its natural levels in the body as we age.  

Some of the known uses of Co Q 10 for treating different conditions are for lowering blood pressure, to treat heart conditions and heart failure, and to lessen future risks of cardiac arrest, however clinical evidence is rather conflicting as to whether call Q10 can be effective for those conditions.

There have been preliminary scientific studies that have shown that Co Q10 can be effective in slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. However additional research is needed to solidify that claim.  Another prevented treatment for which Co Q10 has been used on a long-term basis is treatment to reduce or cure migraine headaches. Ongoing studies having carried on for cancer, low sperm count, HIV, Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy, gum disease, increased energy, and several other medical conditions. Unfortunately, scientific research has not concluded any evidence decisive enough to support those benefits.      

Please consult with your family physician before taking Co Q10 as a supplementation. Current dosages of Co Q10 have not been established however your doctor can recommend a range of dosage that would be best for you. Keep in mind that as in any supplement different manufacturers and various brands my include a diverse amount of ingredients and strengths in their products.
